China ready to enhance friendship, promote cooperation with Algeria: FM
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday that China stands ready to work with Algeria to carry forward the traditional friendship and promote mutually beneficial cooperation for more achievements in bilateral ties.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a phone conversation with Ahmed Attaf, Algeria's minister of state and minister of foreign affairs.
Noting that China and Algeria share a profound traditional friendship, Wang said the two countries have built an all-dimensional framework of cooperation and established a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Under the guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the bilateral relationship has achieved steady and sound development, Wang said.
China is willing to work with Algeria to follow through on the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and support each other's core interests, so as to strive for more achievements in the bilateral relations, he added.
The second China-Arab States Summit will be hosted in China next year, which, Wang said, will be another milestone event in the history of China-Arab relations. Noting that Algeria is a major country with significant influence in the Arab world, Wang said China stands ready to maintain communication with Algeria to jointly contribute to the success of the summit.
For his part, Attaf said that China is an important trading and investment partner of Algeria. Under the guidance of the two heads of state, Algeria-China relations have maintained strong momentum, effectively promoting Algeria's national development, he added.
As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China has maintained an objective and impartial position in international affairs, which the Algerian side highly appreciates, said Attaf, noting that Algeria is willing to work with China to continuously enhance their traditional friendship, deepen practical cooperation, and elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a higher level.
Algeria supports China in hosting the second China-Arab States Summit, which will inject new impetus into relations between Arab countries and China, he added.
Attaf also briefed on Algeria's position on the Western Sahara issue.
Wang said that China's position on the Western Sahara issue is consistent. A political solution is the fundamental way out, and the United Nations is the main channel, he noted, adding that relevant UN Security Council resolutions are an important basis, and dialogue and negotiation are the right approach.
Wang expressed the hope that relevant parties will fully communicate and reach a solution acceptable to all on the basis of fairness.
