China-Zambia ties a model for South-South cooperation, says Chinese ambassador
China-Zambia relations have gone beyond the bilateral scope and become a benchmark of China-Africa friendship and a model for South-South cooperation, a senior Chinese diplomat has said.
Han Jing, the Chinese ambassador to Zambia, said the elevation of bilateral relations between China and Zambia to a comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership in 2023 has opened broader areas of cooperation and deepened collaboration.
In an interview with Xinhua on Saturday, Han underscored several major joint projects that have progressed steadily, such as the commissioning of the 100-megawatt Chisamba Solar Plant and the reopening of the Lubambe Copper Mine.
The Tanzania-Zambia Railway has remained a powerful symbol of China-Africa friendship, he said, adding that its revitalization plan will strengthen Zambia's regional connectivity and support its ambition to become a "land-linked country" and a regional industrial hub.
Han said that China and Zambia have cooperated closely at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, firmly supporting each other's interests, upholding fundamental norms governing international relations, and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries.
Chinese modernization provides a new path for non-Western countries seeking development while preserving independence, Han added.
"China and African nations, including Zambia, are fellow travelers on the road to modernization. China stands ready to enhance governance exchanges and support each country's independent exploration of development paths," he said.
