Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Istvan Jakab said here on Tuesday that Hungary-China cooperation has reached a historic high, exemplifying harmonious, effective, and mutually rewarding ties between East and West.

He said this when addressing a reception to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 76th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Hungary, hosted by the Chinese Embassy to Hungary.

Jakab said China has become Hungary's most important trading partner outside Europe. In 2024, Chinese enterprises ranked as the largest source of foreign investment in the country. With the inflow of Chinese capital, Hungary has secured a unique position in Europe as China's top investment destination on the continent, he noted.

The deputy speaker said that bilateral friendship is not only about economic partnership, but also about cultural exchange and sincere dialogue between peoples, which provides a solid foundation for the stable development of political and economic relations.

Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao briefed the guests on China's recent development achievements and the progress of bilateral cooperation in various fields. He stressed that the two countries enjoy deep political trust and maintain close communication on international and regional affairs.

More than 500 guests attended the reception, which also featured a joint performance by the Ulan Muqir art troupe from China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Hungarian National Folk Dance Ensemble.
