To help build an outstanding tourist destination with both international and domestic influence, the Gansu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has recently carried out the selection work of Gansu's "China's Best" in cultural and tourism, centering on the themes of "the birthplace of Chinese civilization, the golden section of the Silk Road, a museum of natural wonders, a grand view garden of ethnic customs, and a destination for quality tourism".

This selection initiative has conducted a comprehensive review of Gansu’s "China’s Best" cultural and tourism resources through field research, data collection, and expert consultations. The evaluation covers multiple dimensions, including natural wonders, Yellow River culture, Silk Road heritage, Great Wall history, grotto art, ancestral civilization, historical folk traditions, and revolutionary (red) culture. To ensure academic rigor, over 10 experts from prestigious institutions—such as Lanzhou University, Shaanxi Normal University, the Gansu Provincial Museum, Northwest Minzu University, Northwest Normal University, and the Gansu Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center—were invited to participate in multiple rounds of deliberation, providing robust scholarly support for the project’s high-quality completion. To date, nearly 200 documents have been compiled, resulting in a preliminary list of 220+ "China’s Best in Gansu" entries. Additionally, more than 500 high-quality images have been carefully selected to visually authenticate each entry, laying a solid foundation for follow-up initiatives.

The Gansu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism will further refine and systematically categorize the province’s cultural essence and natural wonders, aligning with its broader tourism development strategy. By deeply excavating premium cultural and tourism resources, the initiative will prioritize selecting and showcasing attractions of "China’s Best" and "World’s Best" caliber. This effort aims to establish a comprehensive"China’s Top Tourism Resources" framework, reinforcing the foundation for Gansu’s transformation into a leading cultural and tourism powerhouse.
