Dingxi, generally called “Longzhong”, lies in the convergence of the Loess Plateau, Qinghai -Tibet Plateau and the Western Qinling Mountains. Roughly divided into two natural regions: the loess hill and ravine region and the high cold and damp region, it has the altitudes of 1420-3941 meters, a mean annual precipitation of 350-600 millimeters, and an annual average temperature of 7 ℃. It currently has the jurisdiction over Anding District and 7 counties: Tongwei County, Longxi County, Lintao County, Weiyuan County, Zhang County, and Min County. There are 119 towns, 3 sub-districts, 1887 villages and 88 communities. It covers a total area of 19,600 square kilometers (the urban planning district is 65.8 square kilometers, and the main urban built-up district is 26 square kilometers). The total agricultural area is 12.4058 million mu (0.827 million hectares). The registered population is 3.025 million, and the permanent resident population is 2.5078 million.
